Job Description

Tutors meet in face-to-face with small groups (1-6 students) of assigned students to assist them with curriculum based content, as well as developing academic strategies and skills. Sessions typically occur weekly and continue for the duration of the semester. All sessions are typically 1 hour in length.
Tutors will participate in 2 hours of mandatory meetings and training sessions each week. This training may result in the opportunity to gain nationally recognized certification. Other benefits of tutoring include gaining valuable work experience that will also help tutors become better students themselves while they help their peers.

Individuals must attend training sessions before they can begin receiving tutor assignments.

To apply as a Tutor, you must be able to tutor at least one of the following course content areas:
• AST101 – Our Corner of the Universe
• BIO327 – Cell Biology
• CHE106 – General Chemistry 1
• CHE275 – Organic Chemistry 1
• EAR110 – Dynamic Earth
• ECN203 – Economic Ideas and Issues
• MAT221 – Elementary Probability & Statistics 1
• MAT295 – Calculus 1
• PHY211 – General Physics 1
• PSY205 – Foundation of Human Behavior



Required Qualifications

Tutors must have a demonstrated ability to tutor the specific subject area and must have earned at least a “B+” in the subject area and receive approval from the department.
Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Exhibit effective verbal and written communication skills.
Present themselves as an appropriate academic role model for students.
Maintain the highest level of academic integrity.
Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of individuals.
Demonstrate an ability to develop professional relationships with student-athletes.
Maintain confidentiality at all times and adhere to specific standards of ethical conduct.
