Job Description

Under the direction of the Principal Cataloger, the Cataloging Assistant will enhance bibliographic records for individual items or work on database maintenance for SU Libraries’ general collections and the Special Collections Research Center’s collections.

Responsibilities

Correcting/updating bibliographic records for a variety of materials and formats using MARC.
Update holdings and create item records for the Special Collections Research Center
Provide support for database maintenance projects
Document daily/weekly progress
Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at Syracuse University.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Education or experience with the basic precepts of library cataloging. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Attention to detail.

Job Specific Qualifications

Current iSchool’s Library Science Program Students preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit for long periods of time, stand for long periods of time, and crouch/bend repeatedly. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, push cart with up to 60 pounds.

Tools/Equipment

Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, others as required.
