Job Description

Under the direction of the Metadata Services Librarian, the Metadata Services Assistant will analyze, create, and correct metadata within a variety of SUL digital repositories according to established schemas and profiles. In addition, the Metadata Services Assistant will update and, in some cases, create documentation specific to newly established and changing Metadata Services workflows.

Responsibilities

Attend and take notes at all meetings of the Metadata Advisory Group. Create descriptive metadata and/or perform quality assurance checks on assigned projects. Document and/or update workflows for current and new projects. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at Syracuse University. Library degree preferable but not necessary. A good opportunity for someone interested in descriptive metadata and metadata workflows.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Education or experience with the basic precepts of library metadata, including but not limited to: application profiles, XML, library metadata standards (such as Dublin Core, METS, MODS, etc.), quality metadata. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Attention to detail.

Job Specific Qualifications

Library experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit for long periods of time, stand for long periods of time, and crouch/bend repeatedly.

Tools/Equipment

Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, Oxygen, others as required.
