Job Description

The Department of Transmedia within the College of Visual and Performing Arts invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Film, at the rank of assistant professor. Appointment to begin August 2018.

The successful candidate will teach a standard 3/2 load primarily in the Film program, with some assignment possible in Art Video or Transmedia Core depending on interest, expertise and qualifications. The faculty member will bring production expertise and industry connections directly to the classroom and help design new courses as well as providing vision to the program and department. The workload is generally split between (40%) teaching, (40%) research, and (20%) service. For service, the faculty member will participate in committees in the department, college, and/or university and help with student advising, student learning outcomes and assessment, and community engagement.

Qualifications

MFA in Film or equivalent production experience.

We seek a filmmaker obsessed with producing his/her own work and with in- depth technical skills, aesthetic, and all- around production knowledge with particular strength in cinematography and scriptwriting. We would also be interested in someone whose skills and knowledge include virtual reality, production design and some areas of Film Studies.

A solid record of achievement in film festivals or other distribution channels is expected.

Job Specific Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of multiple modes of film production.

Thorough understanding of film production and post-production technology in such areas as 16mm, super 16mm, digital cinema, NLE (editing), color correct.

Thorough understanding of both independent and mainstream film production and post-production.

Responsibilities

Successful candidate will fully participate in the life of the department and program and contribute to our educational and research missions.
