Job Description

The House Manager establishes a welcoming experience for all audience members to Syracuse Stage in a professional, patron-centered environment. Oversees and coordinates all activities in all front of house (FOH) spaces including performances, special events, concessions, and access routes. Manages the paid and volunteer Guest Services Staff in ticket scanning, directing seating, and program distribution. Oversees coffee bar concessions, bar, and rectifies end-of-night paperwork. The position has additional administrative duties related to house management in the form of house reports, shift reports and inventory tracking. Position requires a flexible schedule aligned with Syracuse Stage’s performance calendar and will include nights, weekends and occasional holidays. Qualified individual should be energetic, forward-thinking, personable, able to multitask and respond dutifully in the event of an emergency.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all FOH guest services staff and programs including ushers, ticket takers, scanners, coat check, seating, concessions stocking, distributing and reconciliation, program stuffing and distribution for all publicly attended activities.
• Oversee any FOH emergencies including evacuation of patrons.
• Manage bartenders, paid work-study ushers, volunteer ushers, including training, scheduling, and support needs, fulfilling all HR requirements as applicable.
• Assure the preparation and use of all FOH spaces for public access including the staffing of bar/merchandise service, cleanliness/housekeeping, production and facilities/operational support. Must determine that the public spaces are clean and properly prepared for all performances and events.
• Assist in training, performance standards, work rules and safety requirements
• Manage merchandise sales efforts.
• Maintain Syracuse Stage rules and regulations and compliance with ADA guidelines especially as related to audience safety, access, and comfort.
• Act as evacuation marshall for performance and other events, supervising and coordinating ushers, volunteers and patrons from building as well as appropriately communicating with emergency responders
• Assist guests and artists in answering special requests and resolve problems as necessary
• Complete all required reports and administrative processes
• Perform related duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent.
• Experience in theatrical front-of-house operations, preferably in a multi-venue environment or with variable seating experience preferable
• Excellent patron relations skills.
• Must possess a professional and courteous demeanor for all situations.
• Must maintain a professional appearance at all times.
• Must be able to work nights and weekends as required
• Ability to work creatively on several projects at one time.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in current rules governed by the Americans with Disabilities Act as they pertain to audience’s access seating and service.
• Experience with PatronManager ticket service and scanners helpful
