Job Description

The Senior Project Manager will lead a current critical project to provide the University with the next generation of Human Resource and Payroll systems in PeopleSoft 9.2 Human Capital Management System (HCMS). This individual will then manage future critical Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Application upgrades and maintenance projects. This position will report to the Director of Enterprise Process Support (EPS) in the ITS department. The Senior Project Manager will lead large, complex, highly visible and cross departmental projects to deliver expected results on time and on budget and these projects using EPS structured project management and process improvement approaches through all life cycle phases. The Senior Project Manager may also use advanced technical, analytical, facilitative and/or teambuilding skills to contribute as an active member on various teams.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Management or related discipline and/or six or more years of relevant work experience required.
• Six plus years of experience managing large, complex, highly visible and cross departmental projects in diverse organizations or with Executive level stakeholders is required. Higher Education experience is preferred.
• Experience working with HR/Payroll ERP applications preferred. PeopleSoft experience highly desirable.
• Expert knowledge of and experience using a structured project management methodology, tools and techniques for the entire project lifecycle and demonstrated success across all PMI knowledge areas.
• Experience managing multiple large, complex projects simultaneously; providing advanced stakeholder management; supervising, coaching and mentoring other project managers.
• Expert knowledge of and successful experience using a structured approach to business process analysis and redesign in highly sensitive or politically charged environments.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification preferred
• Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
• Project and portfolio management tools; Microsoft Project preferred
ERP application project management knowledge
• Business process analysis and design skills

Responsibilities

• Provide and support project management and process improvement services using EPS approaches and methodologies by partnering with administrative and academic departments throughout the University.
• Manage and measure work on assigned projects including: communicating expectations and aspirations to groups and organizations; adjusting quantitative and qualitative measures to ensure appropriate feedback on priority goals and objectives; designing and communicating success measures; and managing third party/vendor resources.
• Plan work including: planning and organizing projects and tasks at the individual and organizational levels; setting clear, realistic, time-bound, and measurable objectives and goals; and investigating possible roadblocks and developing contingencies to redirect tasks so momentum is not lost.
• Organize work including: recruiting groups and resources to achieve goals; tackling multiple complex projects and directing them concurrently and efficiently, delegating tasks to continually move projects forward; and keeping accurate and current records in a logical organizing system appropriately accessible to others.
• Communicate regularly with supervisor about work including tasks and schedules, progress and status of efforts, any issues or problem that arise, risks, budget, workload, etc.
• Resolve problems around a diverse range of project activities in a very visible and pressured environment: strategy, risk, schedule, resources, budget, dependences, etc. Manage projects that directly impact the university’s business operations and strategic plan.
• Suggest improvements to EPS approaches and methodologies; provide supervision, oversight, coaching and mentoring to other project managers; and consult with other project managers on current project issues.
• Develop a deep and broad understanding of Higher Education and the University environment and use this understanding to exercise and drive enterprise thinking on all engagements.
