Job Description

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratories of Drs. Steve Dorus and Scott Pitnick in the Center for Reproductive Evolution ( at Syracuse University. The broad goal of this NSF-funded, collaborative research project with Dr. Mariana Wolfner at Cornell University is to determine how interactions between sperm and the female reproductive tract contributes to reproductive isolation. Sperm undergo numerous modifications as they move through the male and female reproductive tracts, although the nature of these interactions and their importance for fertilization success is not well understood. This project will characterize these changes, at the molecular level, within and among closely-related species of fruit fly to understand their evolutionary history and their influence on sperm survival and fertilization success.
Start date is flexible, but as early as 9/1/17.

A PhD in Reproductive Genetics, Genomics, Evolution or a related field is required, and the candidate should have a demonstrated history of research excellence.

Job Specific Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in genetics, genomics and/or proteomics of reproductive systems. Experience conducting genetic, molecular or reproductive research in Drosophila would be beneficial, but is not required.

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Dorus, Dr. Pitnick and collaborators in all aspects of project development and reporting. The candidate will also be expected to work as part of a team, and to provide mentoring to graduate students and undergraduates working in the research group.
