Job Description

Teach RED/SPE 626/627 Early Intervention for Children’s Reading Problems (3 credits)

Course Description: Research based instruction for prevention and remediation of reading difficulties. Focus on preschool and early elementary children at risk for reading problems, as well as older elementary children labeled learning disabled, reading disabled, or dyslexic.

Qualifications

Doctorate or ABD in reading, literacy or a closely related field.

Job Specific Qualifications

Discipline-specific certification and extensive experience in the field highly preferred. College teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.

Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.

Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.

Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.

Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.

Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.

Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.

Participating in departmental meetings or workshops.

Provide student proficieny data for NCATE (if required)

Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.

Physical Requirements

The candidate will need to demonstrate the physical skills required to lead students through the appropriate activity.
