Job Description

The Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience at Syracuse University is seeking to hire a Director of Career Assessment and Student Success for its central Office of Career Services.

The Director of Assessment and Student Success manages the collection of all data from all the schools and colleges across campus relating to internships, employer visits and relationships, career fairs, and student outcomes.

The Director is responsible for collaborating with the schools and colleges to ensure improved measurable outcomes each year.

This position will be responsible for coordinating upgrades, identifying improvements, and testing the software process/enhancements for the career services and student success.

Oversee the academic advising for students who are in need of life coaching to find their way through to graduation – particularly our Alternate Offer students.

Oversee the coordination of employer relations and visits on campus.


• Master’s degree required, preferably in higher education or related field.

• A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate career advising and/or professional career advising where candidate can demonstrate impact on successful outcomes in terms of career advising, internships acquisition and career placement.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Current experience with the use of data in career advising required; experience with data analytics software preferred.

• Demonstrated excellence in communications skills and a genuine evidence of high levels of positive student interaction.

• Must have leadership skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully within a complex organizational structure.


• Develop and implement data collection instruments for schools and colleges to collect and manage information regarding all career related activities of their students.

• Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all the schools and colleges’ career and advising staff and associate deans of student success. Help train schools’ and colleges’ relevant personnel in the systems determined.

• Meet regularly to solicit feedback from assistant/associate deans of student success and their career staff to engage and involve them in all processes.

• Encourage, support and collaborate with all schools to meet the university-wide goals of increasing knowledge rates, internship rates and placement rates for undergraduate students across campus.

• Manage the central career team to ensure that all data are being collected in a timely and accurate fashion.

• Plan and manage an employer relations coordination function which assists in attracting and retaining aspirational employers onto the campus – working closely with the schools and colleges and alumni relations.

• Oversee the coordination of alumni relations through a designated central career staff member and the office of alumni relations.

• Oversee the promotion, logistics and marketing of all career-related events that cross over multiple colleges, such as career fairs, and ensure communications are consistent, professional and timely, both internally and externally.

• Continually measure return on investment of employer relations strategies to ensure they meet the changing marketplace needs.

• Oversee the academic advising of those ‘at-risk’ students, particularly Alternate Offer students (AOs), who are in need of life coaching career related support by ‘neutral’ advisors to help them discover how to best navigate their college careers and beyond.

• Supervise and provide feedback and performance reviews for staff.

• Develop, gain approval for and manage the budget for the central career team.

• Represent career services on committees as deemed appropriate.

• Travel to conferences, workshops to increase professional knowledge as deemed appropriate.
