Job Description

The Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (BMCE) in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University (http://eng-cs.syr.edu/our-departments/biomedical-and-chemical-engineering/) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, scheduled to begin in the fall of 2018. This position is of vital importance to the College’s strategic plan for expanding its interdisciplinary faculty clusters. Preference will be given to candidates who possess fundamental expertise and a scholarly track record in polymer science, particularly as applied in biomaterials, cell/tissue engineering, and/or regenerative/translational medicine. Strong commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary research is especially desirable.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely-related discipline and demonstrate potential for excellence in research and teaching.

Job Specific Qualifications

The new faculty will be expected to establish his or her research program within the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute, which offers world class facilities and a highly collaborative research environment.

Many opportunities for collaborations exist with neighboring institutions, including the SUNY Upstate Medical University and Syracuse VA Medical Center. The BMCE Department offers B.S. (ABET-accredited), M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in both bioengineering and chemical engineering.

Teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is required.

Strong commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary research is especially desirable.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in bioengineering and related topics.

Develop and sustain a high-quality research program in polymer science.
