Job Description

The website content manager will be primarily responsible for the creation, collection, management, and maintenance of content (text, images, and video) on the college’s main external-facing website ( This includes ongoing evaluation and revision of the site’s content for effectiveness, monitoring and implementing relevant best practices and trends in website content (particularly as they relate to peer institutions/competitors in higher education), creating and maintaining a content management calendar and workflow (in partnership with the college’s administrative offices and schools/departments), coordinating and implementing major content revisions, and managing digital asset creation and organization (photography and video). This position will also handle frequent, daily updates and requests from faculty and staff, manage the college’s robust online faculty/staff directory, and serve as a writer/editor for site content, including content that may be used across other college/University communication channels. This position will also oversee the college’s microsites and maintain/revise the college’s resources site as needed. The position will also manage the college’s digital signage system, including development, content integrations, and content management.


• Bachelor’s degree in a related communications field.
• Three to five years’ experience in communications (writing and editing) required, with experience in managing, developing, and maintaining website content preferred.
• Experience in higher education and affinity for the arts a plus.

• Knowledge of Expression Engine and WordPress CMS, or experience working with other CMS tools

Strategic Content Management for
• Evaluate site’s content for effectiveness (ongoing, includes text, images, and video)
• Monitor/educate on trends in effective content presentation (including peer review/analysis)
• Create content management calendar for entire site
• Establish, implement, and maintain workflow for content creation, collection, and management (working with VPA administrative offices, VPA schools/departments)
• Coordinate and implement major content revisions (for example, rewriting program descriptions, reorganizing content during a website platform move)
• Evaluate site’s Google Analytics, use analytics to improve site
• Identify ways to increase website traffic
• Oversee major website platform updates with web developer and graphic designer
Daily Updates to
• Process requests from faculty and staff
• Perform updates as dictated by established content calendar/workflow
• Update/create news, calendar, and spotlight content (timely content)
• Load and update concert programs
College Microsites:
• Evaluate need (annually) with site owners
• Handle new requests for sites
• Perform site updates as necessary
• Oversee implementation and updates of college magazine site
Digital Asset Management:
• Oversee and organize photo and video assets for site
• Coordinate photo and video shoots as determined; work with communications director and graphic designer on creative direction
• Work with graphic designer to organize/store digital assets appropriately
New Hire Processes:
• Solicit new faculty/staff for bios and head shots
• Upload new faculty/staff to online directory
• Work with recruitment and admissions to update student ambassador bios
• Coordinate photo shoots for faculty, staff, and student head shots
• Update communications listervs
• Manage college’s digital signage system
• Provide writing and editing support to Office of Communications.
