Job Description

Reporting to the Director of the Office of Research Integrity and Protections, the Assistant Director will be responsible for maintaining, improving and implementing program procedures for University financial conflict of interest management. In addition, the Assistant Director will develop and manage the Export Controls Program as well as build and improve on the current Responsible Conduct of Research Training Program. This position will also provide campus-wide education in these compliance areas. Other responsibilities include assistance in the Human Research Protections Program, especially in the areas of registration, maintenance of the University’s Federal Wide Assurance, and the tracking of Institutional Review Board Authorization Agreements. This individual will also lead special projects such as the Office of Research Integrity and Protections Assessment and Action Plan for all research compliance areas.


• Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in positions providing oversight on the ethical conduct of research and compliance with government regulations. Previous experience in an export compliance program and/or financial conflict of interest management preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with faculty, students and staff.
• Candidate must be a self-starter with outstanding problem solving skills, and must possess high ethical standards and the ability to exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying regulations and procedures.
• Candidate must possess strong time management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. A strong focus on project management and attention to detail is essential.
• Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Candidate must have a strong working knowledge with Microsoft Office Products and Adobe.


Financial Conflict of Interest Management:
• Ensure Compliance with regulations and policies related to conflicts of interest
• Maintain and develop the University’s conflict of interest policies, procedures and guidelines
• Conduct educational and outreach programs on significant financial interest disclosures for financial interest disclosures
• Perform administrative review of significant financial interest disclosures and individual conflict of interest inquiries
• Provide administration and oversight to approved conflict of interest management plans on behalf of the Individual Conflict of Interest Committee
Export Control Management:
• Development, implementation, and management of an export control compliance program
• Provide centralized resources and assistance for all university export control-related activities
• The compliance program should address all applicable export control laws, regulations, and requirements
Comprehensive Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training:
• Update and maintain RCR program to comply with federal sponsor requirements
• Coordinate required face-to-face training with course instructor (consultant)
• Track individuals requiring RCR training
• Educate campus on requirements and available training
Human Research Protections Program:
• Inter-institutional IRB agreements
• Coordinate and maintain inter-institutional IRB agreements (IIA’s)
• Maintain and update the Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) as needed
• Clinical
• Develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance
• Maintain the University’s clinical registration site
• Manage Assessment and Action Plan (AAP) for all compliance areas in the Office of Research Integrity and Protections
• Travel will include 1-2 conferences per year
